Image format cheat sheet
Choose a format based on the image, whether it needs transparency or motion, and where it must open. The same extension may not work in every editor or browser.
MEZENCORE accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, GIF, SVG, JXL, ICO, and TIFF. Included decoders handle HEIC/HEIF, ICO, and TIFF; the browser handles JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, SVG, and JXL. Output choices are JPG, PNG, WebP, and ICO.
| Format | Transparency | Animation | Compression | Often useful for | Practical caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JPEG | No | No | Lossy | Photos for pages, shops, and messages | Repeated saves can add artifacts; keep the source. |
| PNG | Yes | Still PNG; APNG adds frames | Lossless | Interface screenshots, logos, and sharp edges | Photographic detail can make it large. |
| WebP | Yes | Yes | Lossy or lossless | Web photos and graphics when the publishing path supports it | Test the actual file in the target CMS and browsers. |
| AVIF | Yes | Still images and sequences | Lossy or lossless | Modern web delivery where the whole pipeline supports it | Encoding and decoding support varies across software. |
| HEIC/HEIF | May vary by image | Not an animation workflow in this app | Depends on encoding | Phone-camera originals and related media | MEZENCORE includes a HEIC/HEIF decoder and converts the image to PNG during Default export. |
| GIF | One transparent palette entry | Yes | Palette-based | Simple short animations and legacy embeds | Limited palette is a poor fit for smooth photographs. |
| SVG | Yes | Can include animation | Vector markup | Scalable logos, icons, and diagrams | Embedded raster content and scripts need separate care; this app exports raster formats. |
| JXL | Yes | Yes | Lossy or lossless | Photos and graphics where JPEG XL is supported | Browser support varies; MEZENCORE relies on browser support to open it. |
| ICO | Yes in supported image entries | No | Container for image entries | Browser favicons and Windows icons | MEZENCORE exports one image entry, not a multi-size ICO bundle. |
| TIFF | May vary by image | May contain multiple directories; app reads first | Lossy or lossless options exist | Scanning, publishing, and archival workflows | MEZENCORE reads the first image directory and produces a raster result. |

MEZENCORE Default output
In Default mode, JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, and JXL stay in their original format when supported. TIFF and JXL output depends on browser support. HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, GIF, SVG, and ICO are converted to PNG.
Quick choices by job
For product photos, compare JPG and WebP at the size used on the product page. If the shop requires JPEG, use it directly instead of relying on the platform to convert another format. For screenshots with small labels, start with PNG. If the file is too large, resize it before lowering quality; lossy compression can blur text edges.
For a transparent logo, use PNG or WebP for raster output, or SVG if the destination accepts vector files. MEZENCORE can open SVG input but exports JPG, PNG, WebP, or ICO, so it cannot preserve vector editability. The app does not edit animation frames; use a workflow that preserves them when you need motion.
Motion and transparency deserve a check
Converting a multi-frame image can produce a still image. MEZENCORE does not edit animation frames, so keep the original and use a workflow designed to preserve them whenever motion matters.
A transparent logo can look different on a dark preview than it does on a white email or web page. Check it against the background where it will appear.
Check the destination, not just the file
A format that works on a website may fail in a newsletter editor, marketplace, or office app. Test a sample through the actual publishing process. If the service recompresses uploads, compare its final version with your local export. Keep the original so you can make another version without repeatedly compressing the same file.
